I’m just going to go ahead and tell you to watch the trailer first. But make sure you watch it in the highest quality you can on your computer. In fact, don’t watch the embedded YouTube clip, check out the HD trailer over at Apple.
Prepare yourself for an unparalleled sensory experience. SAMSARA reunites filmmakers Ron Fricke and Mark Magidson, whose award-winning films BARAKA and CHRONOS brought a new visual and musical artistry to theaters. Dispensing with dialogue and descriptive text, SAMSARA explores the wonders of our world, from the mundane to the miraculous, looking into the unfathomable reaches of man’s spirituality and the human experience, and illuminating the links between humanity and the rest of nature.
So, why has this jumped to the top of my must see films list for this summer? Well, it is from the same people who did Baraka, which is one of the most beautiful films ever produced. Secondly, it is shot entirely with 70mm film. In a day and age when there are so many beautiful videos created through HD cameras, there is still something awe-inspring about the scope of 70mm film. Both Baraka, and now this film, will take the power of the magnificent image and put it back into theaters.
This won’t be just a movie; it will be an experience. And I can’t wait.
Check it out (probably quickly) in your local theaters August 2012!
