What Happens on 10/11/12?

Prometheus, the movie that many assumed would explain the origins of the Alien franchise ended up raising more questions than it answered.

Chief among them, what happens on October 11th, 2012?

For those of us who watched the entire closing credits, the final image we were given was this:

At first glance, it just seems like a cute Easter egg, just a little logo that says that everything you’ve just seen is owned by the Weyland Corporation.  But underneath the logo appears the curious words “building better worlds since 10/11/12.”  If it weren’t for the viral videos that leaked early in the the Prometheus marketing campaign (in which Guy Pearce, as a young Peter Weyland, gives a TED talk in the year 2023 about the future of humanity and in which Weyland Corporation’s new robot, David, was introduced to the world), one might not think much of it.  But then a third video leaked.

This one seems to take place moments before the initial TED talk and focuses on a nervous Peter Weyland quoting from Nitzche’s Thus Spake Zarathustra.

“I am a law only for my kind, I am no law for all.”  They are ominous words that dig at the heart of the spiritual/metaphysical/existential conversation that is the foundation of  Prometheus.  But what does it mean?  For now, we have a couple of websites:

The Weyland Indsutries website notes that, essentially, the company was founded on October 11, 2012.  Is that it?  This seems like an awful lot of work for such a small detail (and an insignificant one in the Alien/Prometheus franchise).  Only time will tell — stupid, linear, chronological time.
